Big Brothers and Big Sisters share time with a child weekly or bi-weekly for a minimum of one year. (Research tells us that the positive impact of a mentor in the life of a child is strong when matched for a year or more.  Impact actually becomes negative when the match lasts less than a year.) 

Match activities are usually low or no cost and don't require elaborate planning.  The impact of your friendship with a child isn't about what you do, but that you do something together.  Whether it be watching a movie, riding bikes, playing video games or going grocery shopping, your time is what is valuable in the life of a child.

Couples for Kids

Do you and your spouse or partner share an interest in becoming a mentor to a child?  We recognize that sometimes it's easier to become a Big when you can share the responsibility.  Couples for Kids most often involves mentoring of boys.  Boys make up more than two thirds of the children waiting to be matched with a volunteer mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters, yet less than one third of our volunteer mentors are men.  This is a great way for both you and a child to experience the benefits of a great mentoring relationship.  You get to share with your loved one and the child is able to be matched more quickly.
