In-School Mentoring

View our School List

  • Share 1 hour a week with an elementary student for 1 school year.
  • Do literacy-based activities at the school: reading, writing, sharing stories, playing games or making crafts.

Who are our In-School Mentors?

  • Kind, caring people from all walks of life.
  • Matched with either a boy or a girl.
  • People who want to have fun with a kid and share their love of reading.
  • In-School Mentors who are post-secondary students can be matched from October to April to fit their academic year.

Who are the kids?

  • Kindergarten to Grade 6 students in 40 Catholic and Public schools in Edmonton, Parkland and Strathcona.
  • Some may not have anyone at home who reads with them.
  • Others might have learning difficulties - just like some of us probably did.
  • There may even be some kids who speak another language at home.
  • Most are ordinary kids who would benefit from having a mentor.

Employers who support In-School Mentoring:

  • Demonstrate leadership in the community by encouraging employees to volunteer as In-School Mentors.
  • Attract future employees due to enhanced image in the community.
  • Benefit from the satisfaction, heightened morale, increased loyalty and improved self-esteem of employees who volunteer.
  • Assist in the development of an educated skilled workforce for the future.
